Advice

  • Security Lines, there are three checkpoints, A/B Gates, C Gates, D Gates. Make sure you give your self plenty of time, especially traveling out of C or D Gates. All the security checkpoints have a employee line located together with the first class and disabled. There is no problem going through security with just an airline employee badge.
  • Airport Terminal Trams and Shuttle, If connecting between the A/B Gates and the C Gates, there are two options. First, you can take the shuttle bus that runs between the B Gates before B15 (near the US Airways Passenger Assistance counter) and the C gates. Alternatively, you can take the walkway that connects between where the B concourse meets the its terminal and where the C concourse meets its terminal. It takes about five to ten minutes to take the walkway, and you do not have to exit security. Realize that the highest-numbered gates of concourse C are next to the terminal, not out at the runway end as found at most airports. Realize also that there are no moving walkways to take you to the end of concourse C; the end of the concourse is about ten minutes walking distance from the terminal.

Taxi Cabs

Taxi cabs are available outside on the east side of baggage claim, outside door exits 1-5. Airport personnel are available on the taxi curb to assist passengers. Please note, taxis DO NOT accept credit card payments. There is a $1.20 surcharge on all fares originating at the airport. The maximum number of passengers allowed in any taxi is five (5), including infants and children. Fares: Center strip (Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard) is approximately $12-$15. There are two routes for exiting the airport; the "tunnel" that is freeway and Swenson street which runs parallel to the strip (northbound). While taking the tunnel can cut about 10 minutes off your travel the time, it will add $5-$8 to your fare. The Swenson street exit is usally more direct, but depending on traffic, can take longer and add to the fare due to the wait time charge ($22/hour). Locals use the tunnel to go downtown (although not during rush hour) or when there is a major accident at Swenson and Tropicanna. Alternatives are abundant once you exit the airport and your driver is required by law to take the direct route or give you the option of the timesaving route. Always note the four digit cab number and your driver's name when you enter a taxi in case you leave something behind or have any complaints. Don't tip him/her if they drive erratically, but be generous if your driver is safe, courteous and helpful. The IRS assumes they receive 23% of the meter as a tip and they are taxed on the money whether they receive it or not.
